The Energia Derrysallagh Community Benefit Fund

Supporting non-profit organisations and the local community within the immediate vicinity of the Derrysallagh Windfarm, Co. Sligo.
About the Fund
In December 2021, Energia has launched a Community Benefit Fund to support community and voluntary groups operating within a 5 km radius of its Derrysallagh wind farm on the border of Counties Sligo, Roscommon and Leitrim. Groups from Glen, Ballyfarnon, Geevagh and Arigna are being encouraged to apply.
Grants of up to €3,000 are available for projects benefitting the community around the Derrysallagh windfarm. Energia will provide general support to non-profit organisations for activities such as training programmes, social enterprise development, community events etc.
Grants of up to €6,000 may be considered if the need is evident and funding is available.

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until the fund is spent down.
The Community Foundation for Ireland cannot fund:
- Profit-making enterprises
- Sport organisations
- Religious or political activities
- Projects that have already happened
- Applications that are missing the required governance documents
The Fund Will Not Cover:
Core or ongoing overhead costs of grantee organisations, proposals for equipment costs only, promotion of religious causes, work that has already taken place, non-charitable activities, general political donations, sponsorship or fundraising events, work taking place outside of the designated area.
Applicant Requirements
- Applications must be from community and voluntary groups operating within a 5km radius of the Derrysallagh windfarm that possess charitable aims and are not for profit.
- Groups must demonstrate capacity and willingness to share their story with Energia’s media team to share internally within the company and as local media opportunities arise.
- Applicant organisations must submit their Annual Accounts or most recent set of Audited Accounts.
- Applicant organisations must have an organisational bank account.
- A copy of a recent bank statement must be submitted with each application - This is for account verification only and all financial transactions may be redacted before submission.
- Applicants must be prepared to evaluate and learn from their work as well as to share project learning and outcomes.
- A commitment to equal opportunities must be demonstrated.
- Organisations working with cohorts under the age of 18 will be required to produce a copy of their Child Protection Policy.
Reporting Requirements
Successful applicants will be expected to:
- Acknowledge the support of The Community Foundation for Ireland and Energia on any materials/coverage associated with the grant.
- Submit a progress update 6 months into the implementation period and a final outcome report once the project is complete.
- When requested, provide imagery/content for use by Energia’s media team in internal company publications and for local media opportunities.
