Citi donate $100,000 to Covid-19 Response Fund as part of global response

As part of Citi’s global response to support communities who have been affected by Covid-19, $100,000 has been donated to the Covid-19 Response Fund at The Community Foundation for Ireland.

This funding was split between three Irish charities who have seen significant drops in fundraising in tandem with an increase pressure on their services. Citi’s generosity will enable them to keep supporting those in need.

  • Women’s aid was awarded €27,000 to support their services. Due to quarantine and movement restrictions Women’s aid have seen their largest increase in calls to the support line and requests for immediate and often lifesaving support for victims of domestic violence.
  • Pieta House was awarded €27,000 to continue their efforts in supporting mental health for people in Ireland, specifically around the issue of suicide prevention. Suicidal ideation and attempts have been steadily increasing due to the mental health effects from Covid-19, this funding will allow Pieta house to reach out to those suffering.
  • AsIAm was also awarded €27,000 to support children and young people with Autism and their parents. Many families have been left in limbo with the closure of Autism specific services and AsIAm are upgrading their services to support these families online. These online supports will provide much needed resources and supports to families who are struggling to cope without specialised services.

On a global level Citi and the Citi Foundation have committed more than $100 million to date in support of COVID-19-related community relief and economic recovery efforts. This includes more than $35 million in new funding, adding to the previously announced $65 million in grants and charitable contributions to deliver ongoing relief and support for longer-term economic recovery in communities impacted by the global pandemic. These contributions include $2 million from Citi employees through a donation matching program.

Both the global and national response from corporates to support non-profits during this time has been lifesaving and life changing to so many people. Without the ongoing support of organisations such as Citi many of the most vulnerable in our society would be left further isolated and unsupported than they already are.
