Eating Disorder Awareness Week

Posted on February 25, 2019

As part of Eating Disorder Awareness week The Community Foundation for Ireland has put together this short video with the Eating Disorder Centre in Cork to highlight how one donor has provided support to the centre. Since 2015 this donor has provided 18 grants, averaging €3,000 each in order support the Cork Eating Disorder Centre to continue to provide low cost treatment options.

In 2007 a number of concerned parents of young people with eating disorders formed a support group for families and carers in the Cork area. From this grew the Eating Disorder Centre (Cork), a dedicated & specialist outpatient treatment centre for a person living with eating disorders/eating distress.

The objective of the centre is to have a treatment centre that offers professional expertise in the area of eating disorders, as well as a service that would offer hope of full recovery, to all service users with a kindness and compassion that reflects the dignity of the human being.

Alongside supporting the grant making process for this anonymous donor, The Community Foundation for Ireland has supported the national eating disorder non-profit BodyWhys through a number of our open and closed grant rounds.

Traditionally eating disorder treatment facilities and resources have been under served by philanthropy as they are generally left up to the responsibility of the state. The Community Foundation for Ireland identifies needs in the communities and works with donors to best place funds to create the most social difference.

If you would like to work with us to support a social area that has affected you or your family or that you would like to see additional support be provided to please contact our Fund Development Team or have a look at our Giving section.
